Yellow Wall – Oil on Canvas
Dimensions: A4
Medium: Oil

Yellow Wall oil on canvas is a striking and emotionally resonant oil painting that celebrates the enduring strength of motherhood and the vibrant colours of African culture. The artwork is a masterful study of light, shadow, and form, all set against a powerful backdrop.
The painting’s central figure is a woman, rendered in profile, who embodies grace and resilience. She carries a bowl of bright red fruit on her head, a traditional gesture that speaks to both practicality and elegance.
A child is lovingly secured on her back, their small form a perfect complement to her powerful silhouette. The artist’s use of vivid blues and purples in the woman’s head wrap and skirt creates a stunning visual contrast against her deep skin tone and the bright red of the fruit.
The figures cast a long, compelling shadow on the titular yellow wall behind them. This shadow adds a layer of depth and mystery to the scene, as well as a sense of time and place. The yellow background is not a flat plane; it is alive with texture and subtle variations in tone, hinting at the warm, sun-drenched atmosphere.
Yellow Wall is a beautiful tribute to the quiet dignity and strength of everyday life. It is a painting that celebrates the universal bond between a mother and child, and the rich cultural tapestry of the African continent. This piece is a powerful and touching addition to any art collection.

Cornelie Wolff Approaching Art from a Different Angle
This Johannesburg-based artist started as a pharmacist. After completing her Honours Degree in Psychology, she joined Helios to further her skills in Art Therapy. During this time, she fell in love with art, the process and the emotional power it yields.
While raising her family, which consisted of three young children, she took part-time classes with Rika de Klerk and Willie Jacobs. She also attended workshops led by Koos Bronkhorst, Niel Moss, Willie Jacobs, Rentia Coetzee, Ruth Walters, Elize Bezuidenhout, Douw van Heerden, Charla Maarschalk, and Jennifer McChristian.
Today, she practices what she preaches by creating her work under the motto: “With every painting I complete, I grow as a person and an artist.”
My art is created from a place of wonder – it is my dream for every human to never completely lose the child inside them, because it is our ability to see wonder and magic in things. I use bold brushstrokes, contrast and an impressionistic approach to entice the viewer to create their own interpretation of the subject and become part of my world.
