Miniature Robins – Five Oil Paintings

Dimensions: 8 cm x 10 cm x 0,5 cm

Medium: Oil

Cornelie Wolff

Bring the cheerful warmth of the garden indoors with Cornelie Wolff’s ‘Miniature Robins,’ an utterly charming collection of five individual oil paintings. This unique set transforms a wall into an instant gallery, offering five distinct yet harmoniously linked portraits of one of nature’s most beloved birds.

Each tiny canvas captures a robin in a slightly different posture or moment of observation, creating a visual poem of birdlife. Wolff applies a delightful mix of expressive impasto and soft blending to capture the bird’s iconic features: the brilliant russet-orange chest is rendered with a vibrant, textural flourish, contrasting beautifully with the subdued greys and browns of the wings and the ethereal, pale blue-grey background.

The small scale of the 8 cm x 10 cm panels draws the viewer in, requiring close inspection to appreciate the detail and spirited energy packed into each piece. The collection is designed to be displayed together, allowing the eye to jump from one tiny moment to the next, celebrating the lively character of the robin through repetition and subtle variation.

Cornelie Wolff Approaching Art from a Different Angle

This Johannesburg-based artist started as a pharmacist.  After completing her Honours Degree in Psychology, she joined Helios to further her skills in Art Therapy.   During this time, she fell in love with art, the process and the emotional power it yields.

While raising her family, which consisted of three young children, she took part-time classes with Rika de Klerk and Willie Jacobs.  She also attended workshops led by Koos Bronkhorst, Niel Moss, Willie Jacobs, Rentia Coetzee, Ruth Walters, Elize Bezuidenhout, Douw van Heerden, Charla Maarschalk, and Jennifer McChristian.

Today, she practices what she preaches by creating her work under the motto: “With every painting I complete, I grow as a person and an artist.”

My art is created from a place of wonder – it is my dream for every human to never completely lose the child inside them, because it is our ability to see wonder and magic in things.  I use bold brushstrokes, contrast and an impressionistic approach to entice the viewer to create their own interpretation of the subject and become part of my world.
