About the Artist: Avril Hattingh
She was born in Springs, Gauteng, South Africa on 27 April 1958. She studied at the Johannesburg School for Art Ballet & Music, and later completed a Diploma course in Ceramics at the Technicon of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. She has done several art-related jobs including painting giant cinema posters for Ster Kinekor. She worked for fifteen years as a freelance book illustrator doing children’s educational material; illustrated the Roland Ward hunting and fishing catalogues.
