Gideon Rosseau, born in 1947 in Pretoria, is a renowned South African artist. He is best known for his realistic paintings of African wildlife, which have gained him international recognition and acclaim.

Rosseau’s love for wildlife began at a young age, and he spent much of his childhood exploring the African bushveld. He later studied art at the Pretoria Technical College and worked as a graphic designer before devoting himself full-time to painting.

Rosseau’s paintings are characterised by their stunning realism and attention to detail. He often worked with oil paints, using a technique that involved layering thin glazes of paint to create a luminous effect.

His subjects ranged from elephants to lions to giraffes, but he is perhaps best known for his stunning portraits of African buffalo.

Rosseau’s work has been exhibited in galleries throughout South Africa and around the world. His paintings have been collected by art lovers and enthusiasts, and he is considered one of the most important wildlife artists of his generation.

Despite his success, Rosseau remained humble and grounded, and he continued to paint until he died in 2010. His legacy lives on through his stunning paintings, which capture the beauty and majesty of Africa’s wildlife in exquisite detail.
