Bouquet – Oil Painting
Dimensions: 40 cm x 50 cm x 4 cm
Medium: Oil

An emotional and compelling oil painting by Cornelie Wolff that masterfully uses light and shadow to tell a story. This vertical artwork captures a poignant moment of offering or acceptance, focusing on the intimate connection between the subject and the flowers.
The canvas is dominated by a deep, dark background that creates a sense of drama and introspection. Out of this darkness, the luminous face of a woman emerges, her eyes closed in a moment of quiet reflection. Her face is rendered with soft, fluid strokes, suggesting a sense of peace and inner calm. Her hair, tied back in a bun, is painted in warm, earthy tones that contrast beautifully with the cool tones of her skin.
In the centre of the painting, the woman’s hands tenderly hold a bouquet of vibrant flowers. These flowers are the heart of the piece, with petals of pink, white, and yellow painted with a light, almost ethereal touch. They appear to be glowing from within, their brightness a beacon of hope and joy against the dark background. The artist’s use of light on the hands and flowers draws the eye to the very act of giving or receiving, making the moment feel deeply personal.
“Bouquet” is a powerful and touching tribute to the beauty of a simple gift and the emotions it can convey. It is a work of art that invites contemplation and speaks to the quiet elegance of human connection.

Cornelie Wolff Approaching Art from a Different Angle
This Johannesburg-based artist started as a pharmacist. After completing her Honours Degree in Psychology, she joined Helios to further her skills in Art Therapy. During this time, she fell in love with art, the process and the emotional power it yields.
While raising her family, which consisted of three young children, she took part-time classes with Rika de Klerk and Willie Jacobs. She also attended workshops led by Koos Bronkhorst, Niel Moss, Willie Jacobs, Rentia Coetzee, Ruth Walters, Elize Bezuidenhout, Douw van Heerden, Charla Maarschalk, and Jennifer McChristian.
Today, she practices what she preaches by creating her work under the motto: “With every painting I complete, I grow as a person and an artist.”
My art is created from a place of wonder – it is my dream for every human to never completely lose the child inside them, because it is our ability to see wonder and magic in things. I use bold brushstrokes, contrast and an impressionistic approach to entice the viewer to create their own interpretation of the subject and become part of my world.
